Jedediah Smith - Mounted Print and Plaque

8x12" print with 5x5" plaque with quote.
‎"It is a long time since I left home & many times I have been ready, to bring my business to a close & endeavor to come home; but have been hindered hitherto....

However I will endeavor, by the assistance of Divine Providence, to come home as soon as possible... but whether I shall ever be allowed the privilege, God only knows, I feel the need of the watch & care of a Christian Church. You may well suppose that our Society is of the roughest kind. Men of good morals seldom enter into business of this kind - I hope you will remember me before the Throne of Grace...." – Jedediah Smith -

A new direction leading west!

So, for those of you who have been following this project it has come back to life due to a photo shoot falling into my lap. With a shoot date just around the corner Oct 24th I'm pretty excited about this. Unfortunately, Tyndale as been shelved until a later date. However, we hope to use our new subject as a catalyst for acquiring funding for the Tyndale images.

Jedediah Strong Smith is our new subject. Jedediah will be modeled by a good friend of mine, Tom Candler. This past month I've been working with Justin Dwyer aligning all the details for our shoot next Monday. Justin has been an unbelievable asset in making this project come to be. Having connections with a local park district, access to countless period props, and knowledge in photography, He's been a tremendous blessing it making this happen.

Here are a couple of pre-production images to give you an idea of the direction we're going with this.

The Big Picture

This weekend is my Church's annual Reformation Day Faire celebration. It was my original ambition to have the images ready for this, but reality quickly caught up with me. In the place of the images I have created informative timeline posters that include our three storyboards and a brief description of the event depicted. After the faire I will be making these posters available for purchase online with all profits going to cover the expenses of the Reformation Project endeavor. I hope you enjoy the posters!

Pre-production Excitement

We're still neck deep in the pre-production excitement of the project... To say the least it sometimes feels as though we'll never get beyond it, but I know that's not the case. While we're still working on financing issues, we've decided to move forward on the simplest of the 4 images, the translation scene. With that completed we can get something out there for people to see.

We know it's hard to financially support something you're not familiar with and have no idea what to expect as a result. To get the ball rolling we will be starting with the translation scene. I've included a storyboard of this and just to clarify, all storyboards are original pieces our team has created. They are our unique compositions and they layout what our intentions for this project are so that you, our supporters, know what to expect.

This is no "fly by night" operation and we hope our storyboard illustrations communicate our intention to achieve a truly unique and beautiful pieces of art.

We are just getting started!

If you're reading this blog a couple of things might have happened to you. First, you might be completely lost. In which case welcome! We hope you stick around long enough to get excited about what we're doing. However, if you found us due to your interested in the visual arts then you've hit a gold mine.

Don't let the lack of art on this blog scare you away. As the title says - we're just getting started! Here is what we are working on. The goal behind the Reformation Project is to create story-driven photographic art pieces. You won't be seeing journalistic images from far away places here. Rather we'll be creating, or recreating as the case may be, actual, pivotal events in history. We will be representing stories that should never be forgotten.

Our first project will be of William Tyndale. Tyndale's contribution to the world was incredible and his fight noble. His work should be an inspiration to all men. His efforts to translate the Bible into English - an English that even the common man could read inspired us to go against the flow and create art that will span generations, speak truth, and give God the glory! History, like the life of William Tyndale shall never be forgotten as long as we purpose to retell these stories.

In Christ,
